Oaxaca is one of Mexico’s key coffee-producing states. Elevation for Oaxaca coffee farms generally ranges from about 900 to ~1,750 meters above sea level, though some lots may be higher depending on the micro-region.
Many farms are smallholder / family-run, often using traditional or shade-grown practices, and frequently producing organic coffee. This contributes both to quality and to ecological / social sustainability.
Because of climate, altitude, and soil (often volcanic or otherwise nutrient-rich), Oaxaca is seen as more of an artisan/specialty coffee region within Mexico – not the mass-production type, but often high-quality, nuanced coffees.
Our was grown on one farm – Telea De Casto.
Coffee from Oaxaca tends to have a distinctive and often balanced – sometimes subtly complex – flavour profile.
Our has notes of
Chocolate & Hazelnut giving a comforting, smooth character. Along with the fruitiness of dried fig and marzipan. Oaxaca coffees often strike a balance: enough body to satisfy, without being heavy; acidity tends to be modest to moderate, making them quite versatile.
